Connecticut's Kiva Dance Collective will be performing in this year's production of Dancing in Pink!
The Kiva Dance Collective was founded in 1999 by Patti Buchanan, Judith Ehrman-Shapiro, Gina Ferrara-Bates, and Valerie Rodgers. These four women friends spent many hours dancing together and experiementing with choreography. They decided to present their work to friends and family. Eleven years later, Kiva has grown to thirteen members. Including the original founders, Meghan Buchanan, Lacey Byrne, Stacey Cafeiro, Christine Harris, Susan Krasinski-Nappi, Rolanda Linton-Mitchell, Susan McLain, Karen Rossignol, and Emily Wolfman are also members. Each member has the opportunity to choreograph as well as play a role in all aspects of the production aspect of performance. Each spring, Kiva looks forward to showcasing their work, both new and old to their friends and family and the local community.
The collective takes the name KIVA from the Native American word for sacred space. Kivas are used for ceremonial purposes. Kiva dancers invite the community to join them in their sacred space.
