Why Pink

While teaching Women and Health at the University of Connecticut, I became inspired while the students and I explored Breast Cancer. I was particularly interested in understanding corporate responsibility regarding this very crucial health concern and admired the work of Breast Cancer Action and their campaign "Think Before You Pink."

On an emotional level, I was inspired by Ann Murray Paige's Documentary "The Breast Cancer Diaries." Her story is quite compelling and richly honest.  While watching the film I couldn't help but picture movement to describe the pain, heartache, and struggle that she endured.

Thus began my journey in creating a full length production of pieces that describe and enrich our understanding of Breast Cancer while giving a voice to women on the stage. The first annual production of Dancing in Pink was held at the Warner Theatre in Torrington, Ct and was a great success.

Join Salix Productions and Are You Dense for this year's production of Dancing in Pink to be performed at The Katherine Hepburn Culture Arts Center in Old Saybrook, Ct on Sept 17th and 18th!

"Think Before You Pink, a project of Breast Cancer Action, launched in 2002 in response to the growing concern about the overwhelming number of pink ribbon products and promotions on the market. The campaign calls for more transparency and accountability by companies that take part in breast cancer fundraising, and encourages consumers to ask critical questions about pink ribbon promotions."
